SD memory cards will receive a new standard SD8.0 approved by the SD Association. The documentation of the association indicates some technical parameters for drives that comply with the new standard. So the speed of reading and writing data on such media will be four times higher than existing ones, which brings SD cards to a level comparable to existing SSD drives, and also allows you to work with video in 8K resolution.
High data rates fornew 4 GB / s cards are achieved through the use of PCIe 4.0 interface. Full-size SD Express cards use the NVMe protocol while maintaining backward compatibility. The cards of the new format will be popular when shooting in RAW format, recording and playing 8K-video, as well as when working with multi-channel Internet of things and electronics in cars.
The new SD 8 standard.0 uses the SDUC, SDHC, and SDXC formats. Using the architecture of PCIe 3.0 x2 or PCIe 4.0 x1, the data reading speed will be 2 GB / s, and for PCIe 4.0 x2, the speed will be 4 GB / s, 4 times the current standard SD 7.0.
On SD Express cards for speed4 GB / s data transfer three rows of pins will be installed. For a speed of 2 GB / s, only 2 rows of contacts will be involved.
