Anker Soundcore Rave+ and Rave Neo review

We sadly wave the pen of JBL and Harman, but at the same time we meet the new Anker Soundcore Rave + and Rave Neo, which with

with a sly grin enter the Russian market. Some close the doors to our market, while others enter wide open. Well, now is the time.

Anker has started selling its new largespeakers called Rave+ (the first Rave is being discontinued). The novelty with a “plus” got the opportunity to combine more than 100 similar devices into a single sound system, the software was updated: the sound became more massive and intense, a fully customizable equalizer appeared, color music began to work even more accurately. And for some reason, the reset button was removed from Rave +.

Since the device is portable (or rather, it iscan be carried relatively easily from place to place using the handle on the back), the Anker Soundcore Rave+ was equipped with a built-in 20,000 mAh battery.

Moreover, from acoustics you can charge differentdevices. Moreover, there is PowerIQ Anker technology, which analyzes the power of the connected device and provides the highest possible charge speed.

Under the hood is still as much as 160 watts of power to pump a big party: two 4.5-inch "woofer" speakers and two 1.5-inch speakers for high frequencies.

In Rave+, they left a bright strobe, special LEDs that pulsate to the beat of the music.

While the Rave+ is the big speaker, the Rave Neo is more suited to home listening with friends.

The main feature of this model is the body completely protected from water. He is not afraid of rain or even immersion in water!

The device can be combined with similar speakers in PartyCast mode. So you can buy a few more for immersive immersive sound.

On a single charge, the speaker can work up to 18 hours and during this time delight its listeners with beautiful light music called the Beat-Driven Light Show.

A small but nice bonus from Neo is a cloth handle for carrying the device.

The Anker Soundcore Rave + column today will cost you almost 30,000 rubles, and the Soundcore Neo - 15,000 rubles.

  • The size: 255 x 245 x 505 mm
  • Weight: 8.37 kg
  • Bluetooth version: 5.0
  • Bluetooth range: 20 meters

Big, heavy, inspires confidence and from afar looks powerful and masculine. This is a short description of Soundcore Rave+.

The dimensions of the device are 255 x 245 x 505 mm, and the weightis just over 8 kg. Such a contraption can even pump muscles. True, it seems to me that a potential buyer who can give almost 30,000 rubles goes to a fitness club, and does not pull speakers. I can be wrong))

As for the design, it is calm, especiallyunobtrusive: a rectangle with strongly beveled corners. Plus or minus the same as offered by other manufacturers. The only moment is the cap of the stroboscopic lamp. It looks, for my taste, somewhat collective-farm: like a headlight from a Zhiguli.

The entire body is made of black plastic. The material is durable both in appearance and to the touch. Such a word is not applicable to plastic, but it fits - condo in a good way.

In the country, such equipment does not live for a long time:then +10 degrees, then +35 degrees, then rain, then the scorching sun. Nevertheless, Rave + survived even a small summer rain, after which the protected lamp with a solar battery stopped working, but Anker passed this test: dried the case a little with a hair dryer - and as good as new.

On the front of the device there is a metal grill, painted black. In its lower part, you can see a rather large Soundcore inscription printed in a corporate font.

Anker Soundcore Rave has two positionsfor surface mounting: vertical and horizontal. In the second case, the acoustics must be placed on the left side: here you have two seats near a fire that is pleasantly warm on a cool evening. For stability on the side, rubberized legs were provided.

On top of the Rave+:

  • Power button. Long hold - on / off. Above it there are 4 white LEDs that indicate the battery charge.
  • Button for selecting the connected source - USB or AUX
  • Bluetooth pairing button

Then there are three control buttons: the previous track, the next track and between them - play / pause (in the form of a brand logo).

  • Button for selecting visual effects. Naturally, color music can be turned off completely.
  • Bass on/off button. Holding for 2 seconds switches the Indoor/Outdoor mode. Differences in frequencies: a little more bass in the street.
  • Adjusting the microphone volume

And in the center there is a large “twist” of the volume level. It has a blue backlight underneath. When moving, it goes out for the fixation step.

On the back of the device there is a handle for a comfortable grip with one hand.

In the central part of the back panel there is a recess with a rubberized plug, behind which the main connectors are hidden:

  • USB Type-AIt is designed to charge any device. The manufacturer calls it USB PowerIQ. My test Xiaomi 12 Lite charges pretty fast: in 1.5 hours. But, it seems to me that PowerIQ is just a marketing chip - just to point something out with the "intelligent" mode. It was necessary to write Power Ai - it sounds more modern.
  • USB Type-A for connecting drives in FAT32 format. Understands MP3 and WMA music.
  • Audio input and audio output in the form of "tulips". The output is used to create a wired speaker circuit.
  • 6.3 mm microphone jack
  • Power connection. The cable is included

About Rave+ sound

Ahead of you are two large 4.5-inch speakers for working out bass and midrange, but for treble, two more 1.5-inch speakers are used. Magnets for emitters are classic.

From the point of view of sound - of course, by ear - it seemed to me that the Rave + sounded more energetic, but the bass was a little less. Apparently, due to this, the volume slightly increased compared to Rave.

The “barrel” in this model was not “won”. It is there, but it is only audible at maximum volume, when windows in the house begin to rattle a kilometer from your speaker.

With high frequencies programmers played well. Now they are playing in full force. This is me to the fact that in the previous version, tweeters played quietly.

The volume has also been fixed: if in Rave the adjustment was with a very large step, then in Rave + it is quite thin. Peak volume - 110 dB per meter from the speakers.

Another nice feature of Rave+ is the manual EQ setting. The Soundcore app has both ready-made presets and manual parameters: 8 bands from 65 Hz to 12 kHz.

Lighting effects have not changed, but they began to work more tactfully, it is better to get into the rhythm. The strobe only works at volumes above 30%. For more details, see the Rave review.

Mobile-review.com Anker Soundcore Rave column review - when you want louder!

Large and powerful acoustics for parties and small events: smartphone control, lighting effects, high-capacity battery and USB speaker charging, rain protection and much more

The 20,000 mAh battery charges in 4 hours, andThe speaker is capable of playing music up to 24 hours. In reality, a full charge was enough for a week, if you listen to music for 2-3 hours a day at a volume of about 20-40%.

About Rave Neo

Specifications

  • DC power input connector: 5V 2A (USB Type-C)
  • Battery capacity: 5000mAh / 7.2V
  • output connector: USB 5V/2A (USB Type-A)
  • Speakers: 4" and 2"
  • output power: 50W
  • Charging time: 6 h
  • Play time (depending on volume level and audio content being played): up to 18 hours
  • Degree of moisture protection:IPX7
  • Bluetooth version: V5.0
  • USB audio format: mp3, wma

First thing that comes to mind:compact, cute, but quite stylish speaker with a comfortable and pleasant to the touch carrying handle. And there is something to carry here: after all, 3.7 kg. Yes, this is not Rave + for you, but the weight is also rather big.

The design style of Neo is approximately the same asfor the Rave series: sloping edges, black porous plastic, a mesh that protects the speakers, and on the reverse side it is similarly indicated - Soundcore in a corporate font.

This column is protected from water. And not just from rain or spilled smoothies, but can even be immersed in water. I do not recommend you to do this, but if anything - “welcome” to us on board.

In the country, I tried to water Neo with a hose from different sides and with different jet intensities. A week after the test, the device is in working condition.

Top area with main controlsMade of soft-touch rubber. From the bottom of the same material - four dense and flat legs. This time, you can’t turn the column on its side, and it doesn’t make much sense to do so.

On the reverse side, the lid is hollow. It has holes through which sound is pumped thanks to a passive radiator. Its size roughly corresponds to the size of the case.

As I wrote earlier, almost all control elements are located at the top:

  • Power button. Must be held for more than 2 seconds to turn on the device
  • BASS. Reinforcement of low frequencies. And if you hold it for more than 2 seconds, then the column will switch to the "Indoor / Street" mode. Judging by the frequency response, the "Street" mode receives more mid frequencies, and in the "Indoor" mode, the mids are reduced.
  • Color music. This is a lighting mode switch. There are three in total. A fourth press turns off the backlight. If you hold your finger on the button for more than 2 seconds, the backlight turns off.
  • partycast. Connecting multiple speakers. Long hold on the button - switching between the main and additional columns.
  • Bluetooth. Everything is clear here - Bluetooth connection. And two more of the same speakers can be combined into a stereo system. The mode is called True Wireless Stereo. To do this, hold down the button for 2 seconds.
  • Soundcore Logo. This is play / pause, and rejecting an incoming call, and accepting a call, and holding on the line.
  • Volume control. If you hold down the buttons, the volume will quickly increase or decrease.

What is on the reverse side under a dense rubber plug:

  • USB Type-C. Serves to power the device
  • USB Type A. He is PowerIQ. Charging external devices and connecting drives.
  • AUX. 3.5 mm jack for external audio gadgets. The cable is not included.

Briefly about color music. There are only three modes. The LEDs are, of course, RGB. They are in two translucent plastic strips around the main speaker.

  • Mode 1. While playing music, the LEDs light up from the bottom up, from the center to the edges and, vice versa, to the rhythm of the sounds. Colors automatically overflow.
  • Mode 2. The right part of the color music system is filled from top to bottom, and the left part is filled from bottom to top.
  • Mode 3. An analogue of the first, but in it the filling goes only from the bottom up.

Separately, in the Soundcore application, you can choose to rotate the light counterclockwise. Moreover, both a separate short strip of light and a long double one.

About the sound of Rave Neo

The official source does not indicate either powerspeakers, nor their parameters, including dimensions. In my opinion, this is a little strange, because we have acoustics in front of us, and a potential user must imagine what exactly is inside.

Purely visually, the woofer/midrange driver has a diameter of 4 inches (4 ohms). For HF, a separate tweeter is used, approximately 2 inches (8 ohms).

The total acoustic power is 50 watts. But here again it is worth understanding that this is the maximum possible power. In fact, a small speaker can have a power of up to 5 watts, and a large one up to 10 watts.

Chinese chip acts as an amplifierFT3129. This is a class amplifier with adjustable power limit (APL) and automatic level control (ALC). Its peak output power is 2x40 watts. And this is from a 24 V mains supply. The lack of cooling radiators was a little embarrassing. This means that the system is underpowered.

Note that the Anker Neo uses speakers with classic magnets. Probably to reduce the cost of the product.

In this acoustics, the overtones of the “barrel” are again heard. I think due to the presence of a plastic case.

I really liked the hi-hats. They are detailed and well crafted.

The speakers handle the mids well. They do not scream, without overload and distortion.

But with low frequencies, not everything is so simple. I didn't understand them. On some compositions, they seem to go into overload, while on other melodies there is a shortage.

Sound distortion occurs, but at a volume of 90% -100%. The sound becomes as flat as possible.

Another important point is the location of the column. If it is in open space and on the ground, then the sound is not as expressive as if, for example, the device was located on the floor of the house somewhere in the corner.

Total: the device sounds good, this is the level of JBL Charge 5 and even more powerful; I liked the high frequencies, the mids are well developed; low frequencies are delicate - there is where you need it.

The operating time of Anker Soundcore Rave Neo isabout 18 hours. But this is at minimum volume and without backlight. On average, such a column operates for about 7-8 hours at a volume of up to 50% and the activation of color music.

Impression

Big and powerful acoustics Soundcore Rave +Suitable for those who want to pump a large audience. You can take the speaker with you to the beach and “entertain” with music several hundred meters of open space. The emphasis in this column is on loudness and on the transmission of medium frequencies. I think the calculation was also that you would connect a microphone to the acoustics.

Didn't like the look. Looks simple. Well, a guitar jack could be built in, since there is a microphone input.

Now about Soundcore Rave Neo.I really liked the idea: small dimensions, a carrying handle and color music. Great for a large apartment, for giving, in order to take somewhere in nature in a small company. Of the unambiguous advantages: it is not afraid of moisture, it works for a long time, it plays cool.

Cons: sound distortion at maximum volume and simple lighting effects.

By the way, Anker has another cool columncalled Flare II. We have already published material on it. Here it is needed to listen to music somewhere near you - on the desktop, on the shelf. She has a pleasant sound, and there is color music. Her review is at the link below.
