Drinking water shortage is becoming one of the mostburning problems of mankind. According to some reports, up to 40% of the world's population live in areas where it is difficult to obtain clean drinking water.

Help solve the global problem of humanitymaybe the invention of scientists from the University of California, Berkeley, who proposed an original way to get water from the air around us. It is significant that it is possible to generate water using this technique even in the driest regions of the planet. The productivity of the installation presented by scientists is 1.3 liters of pure water per day, extracted at a relative humidity of 32% and an ambient temperature of 27 ° C.

Air is filtered through the main element.installations - an organometallic framework (MOF), capable of "sifting out" water molecules, which later condense in a storage tank. Air is passed through MOF cartridges and water molecules settle on the metal surface.
Test trials were conducted in the Mojave Desert,one of the driest regions in North America. On the first day of testing, at a relative humidity of 10% and an air temperature of 27 ° C, the installation generated about 700 ml of water. On the second day, the air humidity decreased to 7% and the installation was able to “extract” only 200 ml of water.

It is planned that this type of installation can come to the rescue as an alternative to more massive and complex devices that use special sorbents to produce water.
