That is, two maximally similar devices are sold on the market. The main difference is the processor. Xiaomi 12 uses the top-end Snapdragon Gen 1, while Xiaomi 12x uses the not-so-weak Snapdragon 870.

#one. Compact and handy

Before the Xiaomi 12 review, I considered the most compactflagship device Asus Zenfone 8, which I still use. It is morally a little outdated, however, even now it can outdo most modern smartphones.

When Xiaomi 12 came out, it was this device that intercepted the palm, although it lacked IP protection.

The Xiaomi 12x gadget is produced, in fact, in thisthe same design as Xiaomi 12. Even the colors are the same: gray, blue and purple. Dimensions - 152x69x8.1 mm. The weight of "12" is 180 grams, and the weight of "12x" is 176 grams. Of course, these 4 grams are not felt in any way.

When I write in the text about a compact device, thenin the comments I get a hatred, they say, what a compact device with a 6.2-inch screen ... The fact is that now it makes no sense to measure the dimensions of gadgets by diagonal displays. About 5-7 years ago, a 6-inch smartphone could be considered a tablet due to the presence of huge frames around the perimeter of the screen. Today, frames are miniature, the size of the device is reduced due to this.

In addition, earlier devices were made with an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9, which increased the width. For example, in Xiaomi 12x, the aspect ratio is 20:9 - it is narrower, more comfortable to grip.

For me personally, a significant drawback -rounded screen edges. Ergonomically, such a device is more convenient, but using the Android system is uncomfortable. I have 12 Lite on my hands, and so it is more pleasant to use.

Another drawback is the lack of water protection.The same compact Asus Zenfone 8 has IP68. It seems to me that every modern smartphone with a price of more than 40,000 rubles should have protection. Well, it's the norm to equip smartphones with multiple cameras.

Xiaomi 12x has an excellent oleophobic coating.The finger glides easily, the prints are almost invisible. No deep scratches or chips appeared on the screen while working with the device. The back panel is also perfect.

The back is matte, but if you have dry hands, it feels very slippery. For example, the glossy Huawei P50 is better in this regard, but the cover is quickly covered with prints and other traces.

Total: one of the best Android smartphones in terms of usability, ergonomics, tactile sensations.

#2. flagship display

Despite the fact that the device is ranked lower than Xiaomi 12, the screen parameters did not worsen. However, in the older version, support for Dolby Vision is declared; in the younger version, I did not notice such an option.

Of the main positive points:

120Hz refresh rate
480 Hz touch layer sampling - instant response in toys
419 PPI

The brightness of the matrix in manual mode is up to 700 cd/m2. In HDR mode, the brightness rises to 950 cd/m2.

The screen is bright, but on the street, due to a small diagonal, it is perceived a little worse than, for example, a device with a 6.8-inch display and a brightness of 500 cd/m2.

Unlike the screen of Xiaomi 12 Pro, the Xiaomi 12x matrix does not go into green shades when tilted. White color is natural. In this regard, I like the screen of the 12th more than the 12 Pro.

Ripple factor values are high:

100% - 40% brightness - 12% - 15% CP
40% - 5% brightness - 25% - 30% CP

Let me remind you that the CP should be up to 10%.

Despite these ripple values, I can't say that my eyes suffered from PWM. It is likely that up to 30% is not the threshold that should greatly affect visual perception.

A separate issue is rounded edges. I do not like them.

There is a global minus:The light sensor is constantly dimming. The brightness of the matrix is then twisted to a maximum in the dark, then to a minimum on the street. Constantly floats from minimum to maximum and vice versa. To be honest, I got a little carried away and just manually chose about 70-80%.

The bug is likely to be solved by the next firmware update.

Total:cool screen with large viewing angles, without green tints; 120 Hz refresh and 480 Hz touch; visually better than 12 Pro; there is PWM with average ripple values; blunts the light sensor.

#3. Good battery life for a compact

The battery in this model is built-in Li-Pol 4500 mAh. For example, Xiaomi 12 Pro has a little more – 4600 mAh.

In my conditions in the country, the Xiaomi 12 smartphoneworked from 9:00 to 23:00 and showed 4 - 4.5 hours of screen glow. The same Xiaomi 12 (albeit at home in Moscow) “shone” at auto brightness for up to 6.5 hours. It's hard to say if it's the location or the processor.

The device Xiaomi 12 plays up to 15 hours of video, can work up to 4 hours in the mode of audio conversations via WhatsApp.

I took all measurements at a screen frequency of 120 Hz. Experience shows that reducing the frequency to 60 Hz does not give any increase in operating time. At least, if it is, then this is an error.

Of the unequivocal pluses - fast charging 67 watts. From 0% to 100% it takes about 40 minutes to charge.

Unlike Xiaomi 12, it does not have wireless charging.

Total: quite reasonable operating time for such a small device; very fast charging.

#four. Plenty of memory and fast processor

As I wrote at the beginning of the text, the main difference between Xiaomi 12 and 12x lies precisely in the processors. In the first case, we are dealing with the top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and in the second case, with the Snapdragon 870.

If we're talking about normal phone useand we don’t drag geek testing methods here, then Xiaomi 12 and 12x are no different: both fly, both do not slow down, both have no lags, all toys run at maximum settings without problems. Well, "under a magnifying glass" you can always find all kinds of bugs.

I write reviews for a wide audience, and not for those who drive Genshin impact for 10 hours a day, check the chip throttling and device case temperature every 5 minutes.

It all depends on the optimization of software and hardware. Today Genshin impact does not lag, and tomorrow Android programmers will screw up with an update, and even Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will not save you.

In Antutu, the Xiaomi 12 model scores about 900,000 points, while the Xiaomi 12x model scores around 700,000 points.

By the way, looking ahead, I can say that the difference in performance is generally noticeable when using Xiaomi gadgets, it is the 12 Lite device that is slower and slower.

The speed of the RAM really disappointed me. 7500 MB / s is like a device for 10,000 - 12,000 rubles. For example, Xiaomi 12 hits 30,000 MB/s.

The speed of the built-in memory is 880/320 MB / s versus 1400/370 MB / s for Xiaomi 12. That's the difference for you. Not only is the processor newer and the process technology is smaller, but the memory speed is also much higher.

Total: a fast, non-buggy smartphone that can run any games and programs without lags; the memory speed is lower in the older model, but in real life it is impossible to notice this.

#5. Great cameras

In the Xiaomi 12 review, I wrote that the camera set is notultimate. However, it will suit most: a cool main 50 MP matrix, a good “wide” 13 MP, a quite successful 5 MP macro sensor with a slight approximation.

Yes, I would like to have an optical zoom, but here it isthere is a 48 mm in Xiaomi 12 Pro, but there is practically no sense from it, since it does not work well when the lighting level decreases, and the increase itself is neither one nor the other.

In Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, 5x magnification is another matter. But when the light level decreases, it switches back to the main camera. I haven't tried the 12S Ultra yet.

I liked the Xiaomi 12x cameras, I didn’t notice any special problems, but there are few killer features. From the positive points:

Impression

Global difference between Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12xno, normal users won't notice anything. Yes, the processor and memory are cooler in Xiaomi 12, but this does not affect the overall impression of Xiaomi 12x, which has slightly more modest hardware parameters.

Officially, prices in Russia are high: Xiaomi 12 costs from 70,000 rubles, and Xiaomi 12x costs 55,000 rubles. And these are 8/128 GB versions. In this case, there is no point in overpaying 15,000 rubles.

If someone does not know, then on AliExpress modelXiaomi 12x costs around 35,000 rubles for the 8+128 GB version. Interestingly, Xiaomi 12 in the same Mi Global Store on AliExpress costs about 40,000 rubles. That is, the difference is only 5,000 rubles. In this scenario, it is easier to overpay and take a real flagship.

If you need to save money, take Xiaomi 12 Lite for 28,000 rubles (on Ali). Great device with a flat screen and cool cameras. I will talk about it later in other materials.
