Short line

Hi all.

I noticed an interesting optimization on the MTS website. If you log in from a computer, then it is not possible to find archival tariffs on the operator's website. It seems that the red inscription “Actual” implies that there should be archival ones somewhere, but no.

But if you log in from your smartphone, the “Filter” button will appear, where you can select the “Archived rates” item and get a list plus the address of the page that can also be opened from a computer.

Probably some kind of bug on the site. But I went to the operators' websites to see how much the cheapest tariff costs today and what it offers.

Unexpectedly, MegaFon turned out to be the most profitable operator, offering the most mobile Internet and minutes of calls. Beeline and MTS are approximately on the same level.

Obviously, base rates exist fromthe only purpose is to show the minimum price, because it is impossible to use them (again, with the exception of MegaFon - 8.5 GB of traffic and 400 minutes are drawn to the minimum set).

More or less normal tariffs for a set of packages do not cost 100 rubles more.

Well, comfortable tariffs, when you can use mobile communications, not counting minutes and gigabytes, have come close to the psychological mark of 1,000 rubles.

Accordingly, the situation is thatformally, operators practically do not raise tariffs, but force subscribers to switch to more expensive packages. After all, what is 5 GB of mobile traffic in 2023? This volume will go only to instant messengers and checking mail, and it is unlikely that it will be enough for social networks in full.

I noticed that now on expensive tariffs(which are about 950-1000 rubles per month), firstly, unlimited distribution of Internet traffic as part of the package (for example, I have a December 2020 tariff, and only 10 GB is available for distribution for free). Secondly, what is absolutely marvelous: file-sharing networks work for free, but at a speed cut down to 128 Kbps. However, the latter can be interpreted as a sign of the times. Today, some VPNs and similar hidden networks (such as Lantern), which have become ubiquitous in Russia, are treated as peer-to-peer networks, which leads to additional fees being charged.

At the same time, operators still have the cost of servicesvaries from region to region. So, in Tyva, the tariff "MTS Access" costs 690 rubles, and in Moscow - 950 rubles. So those who want to save money can rush to Tyva, but they will have to connect the “Home package +” option or its equivalent for 115 rubles. And save as much as 145 rubles a month, or 1,740 rubles a year.

Different prices for iPhone and others?

I well remember the stories from the Western media thatiPhone users are shown higher prices online than Android users. The story was promoted in the USA, but there was no such thing in Russia. However, since then we have come a long way in the field of dynamic pricing.

I was looking for a snowboard bag, and since infrequentlyI order in the store from screenshots, asked my girlfriend to place an order using a branded virtual bank card. As you can see, on the computer they offered me to buy a cover for 1,968 rubles on a card, and for her for 2,365 rubles. For the sake of curiosity, we looked at other cases and goods (soap, clothes, shoes). Everywhere prices differed not in favor of the iPhone.

I'll have to watch and compare more.shops and sites. So, perhaps, everything here is explained by the fact that I rarely buy on the screen, but it is constantly, and therefore the online platform on a regular client is trying to earn more (they say, they still constantly buy). And I am a rare client, so they are trying to lure.

Question to readers: did not notice this? If yes, on what platforms?

Galaxy S23 Ultra Highlights

Not much time left before the traditionalGalaxy Unpacked 2023 presentation, which will show the new flagship line. For the first time in 3 years, Samsung will hold a presentation not online, but, as before, in sunny San Francisco.

So it's time to tie up all the rumors and leaks in one ball.

Slightly flatter design

In the past few years, Samsung has franklyspeaking, did not indulge users with designs. New colors, games with a camera module, but visually the smartphones were similar. All the same rounded edges, curved screen.

Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy S20 Ultra

And I don’t know why, but there is a feeling that Samsung does not change the design of smartphones just because Apple has been churning out the same type of iPhone for years.

Unfortunately, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will not please with anything new.

The new model will be distinguished from the old one in the handsAlmost impossible if you don't look closely. However, according to influencers who have already been given smartphones in their hands, the screens of the new Galaxy S23 Ultra feel less curved, which has a positive effect on the user experience.

Probably, if you look closely, you will notice that in one of the smartphones, the lens of one of the cameras is larger.

200 MP camera with optical stabilization

And, apparently, the camera will be the main highlight, because of which buyers around the world will have to give Samsung their hard-earned money.

This is already a confirmed fact. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will have a 200 MP camera. This is Samsung's own developed module - Samsung ISOCELL HP2 with a 1/13” matrix size and a 0.6 micron dot size.

Let me remind you that Samsung in this case is againsttrend. Other manufacturers, such as Sony, have finally stopped counting megapixels, focusing on the size of the matrix. So if you look at the current flagships of 2023, they have a Sony IMX 989 module with a marketing inch-sized matrix.

Along the way, Samsung ignores the trend for collaborationwith well-known photo brands. Xiaomi is working closely with Leica, Oppo has pulled up Hasselblad, and Sony is working closely with its photography division. However, this can be explained by the fact that Samsung, unlike Oppo and Xiaomi, is confident in the strength of its brand and does not consider it necessary to enter into a partnership. Or they could enter into a partnership with Canon, if only for the sake of making the border of one of the lenses red. People love these kinds of collaborations.

A number of insiders, including the same Ice universe, claim that the camera will use the new Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) technology, “which can significantly reduce the problem of overexposed photos in bright conditions. A voltage transfer gate is placed at the bottom of the photodiode inside each pixel to transfer electrons from the pixel to the logic layer. D-VTG also accurately adds a second transmission gate to the pixel, increasing the total pixel well capacity by more than 33%. By absorbing more electrons and efficiently transmitting the signal, this approach reduces overexposure and improves color reproduction, especially in bright environments.”

That is, to put it simply, the problem of illuminatedphotos. For example, here is one of the photos that this technology will help by removing light exposure. This technology also means that the smartphone will have almost instantaneous autofocus with accurate white balance.

Another interesting technology that will appear incamera is called Tetra2pixel. This is a technology about the so-called pixel binning, or combining several pixels into one. The highlight is that Tetra2pixel will be able to emulate different pixel sizes depending on the lighting conditions.

Here you can quote Samsung:

In low light conditions, the sensortransforms into either a 50 MP camera with a pixel size of 1.2 microns, or a 12.5 MP camera with a pixel size of 2.4 microns, linking from four to 16 adjacent pixels. For fuller 8K video (at around 33MP), the HP2 switches to 50MP 1.2 micron mode to minimize crop and capture more of the scene.

The technology behind the camera is definitelyintrigue. On the one hand, if you look at the characteristics, the Samsung ISOCELL HP2 is inferior to the Sony IMX 989 both in dot size and matrix size. Let's see what Samsung has to say, but it looks like competitors will beat the Korean company in terms of shooting in the dark. Still, it's hard to argue with the size of the matrix.

On the other hand, we have known for a long time that artificial intelligence decides in modern photography, which will complete everything that the camera does not see.

On the plus side, the 200MP lenses don't seem to have the same problem as the 108MP when the image was slightly washed out around the edges.

At the front, the smartphone will have a 40 MP selfie camera, andAssisting the 200MP camera will be a 10MP periscope for optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera. The latter is, of course, disappointing. Many brands put good 50MP ultra-wide-angle cameras in their smartphones.

We can definitely say that Samsung's cameras should be much better than the previous model, since only the new chipset will not make sales.

Chipset from Qualcomm and cooling from Exynos

By the way, about the chipset. This is expected to be Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Samsung has officially taken a break from Exynos. Inside the company, everyone involved was scolded, the team responsible for the chipsets was built inside the department responsible for new smartphones.

Unfortunately, the firstGalaxy S23 Ultra synthetic tests leaked. So, in the Geekbench test, new smartphones based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets are significantly behind competitors in the multi-core test (that is, a test that uses all the resources of the chipset). While Samsung shows results at the level of 4700-4800 points, already presented smartphones from Xiaomi and Vivo are able to “knock out” around 5200 points.

This suggests that Samsung has tolimit chipset performance to reduce heat. There is a saying that you need a radical change in the staff and you can not be limited to changing the bed. In the case of Samsung, this is more than ever true. In addition to chipsets, the cooling system also needs to be improved.

So, apparently, after the presentation, the Internet will be flooded with regular reviews of gamers showing the drawdown of frames in popular games.

Separately, I note that I'm waiting for a drive according to technologyUFS 4. At the end of last year, Samsung introduced new memory versions. UFS 4 is 2 times faster than the current UFS 3.1. The new technology will lead to even more merging of RAM and storage.

Battery and fast charging, in principle, at the level

The older model will still have a Li-Ion 5000 mAh battery, and fast charging will be limited to 45 watts. Plus there will be wireless charging 15 (20?) W.

In the era of adapters that charge a smartphone in 17-20 minutes wired and 30 minutes wirelessly, Samsung certainly looks like an outdated company.

The lack of fast charging can be explained by a number of reasons:

  • firstly, the smartphone's cooling system cannot cope with the chipset, add super-fast charging here, and there will be a fire;
  • secondly, these are additional costs and complication of the design, and Samsung, like Apple, will hang themselves for an extra penny.

As usual, there will be no charger included.

The screen is the same but better

As usual, Samsung will get itsbest OLED screen. Apparently, there will be a brightness under 2000 nits. But there will be no Dolby Vision, only HDR10 +. Samsung remains the ideological opponent of Dolby. Once, not wanting to pay for a license, Samsung came up with the HDR10 standard, made it free and distributed it.

To some extent, such persistence is sad, as there are more and more smartphones on the market whose screens support Dolby Vision.

Probably, the main novelty of the screen can be called a new version of the protective glass - Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The new glass version is better suited for smartphones2022/23, which got heavier. Corning says that it diligently dropped smartphones from a height of 1 meter onto the asphalt. This, by the way, is important, since they used to drop it on a smooth floor. And the asphalt is still more uneven and abrasive. But speaking in formal numbers, the new product is only 15% stronger than the previous generation.

Conclusion

The main highlight of the smartphone will be the camera.Samsung has to come up with an interesting story, introduce new shooting modes and new features. Well, or the quality of shooting should be radically different from the current generation. Otherwise, smartphones will be difficult to sell.

Plus, there will certainly be an increase in prices, otherwise in the current economic situation it cannot be.

There are numbers on the internet:

  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 8GB + 256GB - $1,249
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 12GB + 512GB - $1,349
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 12GB+1 TV - $1,499

Are there any readers who this yearplans to buy the Galaxy S23 Ultra? I can say about myself that I have big plans and hopes for my smartphone. Well, it's interesting to see if there will be any restrictions in the new Galaxy for Russia. Suddenly, like the iPhone, VoLTE stops working, or VoWiFi, or maybe Samsung Pay.
