PlayStation 4 experiment with replacing HDD with SSD showed unexpected results (video)

One of the main advantages of future consolesThe PlayStation 5 will use SSD solid-state storage, delivering significant boosts in download speeds and improved streaming. For the first time, the idea of introducing an SSD in the PlayStation 4 console appeared back in 2013, but then the high cost of a gigabyte of solid-state storage prevented the testing of the innovative technology. Now experts from Digital Foundry from Eurogamer were able to conduct such an experiment and see how the new storage will affect the application launch process.

A new one has been installed in the PlayStation 4 Pro consoleSSD Samsung 870 QVO via SATA II or USB 3.0. Samsung promises a maximum read speed of 560 MB / s and a write speed of 530 MB / s, which has been able to improve the loading speed of most games tested. Experts point out that the best results can be achieved using SATA III.

According to the test results, a table is presented, inwhich shows that the use of an SSD significantly increases the loading speed of gaming applications. Basically, the speed increases by 30-60%, but for example, for games of the Fallout 4 series, the download speed increases 2-3 times. However, the Gran Turismo Sport game showed a slight increase in loading speed of only about 10%.

Also, experts noted that SSD forPlayStation 4 can be used as a mobile backup storage, allowing you to play on other consoles without preinstalling the app, after logging into your account.
