Screen resolution 2000×1200 pixels for suchthe diagonal is not the highest, as well as the brightness is not impressive, but it copes with its main job. Here we also get a Snapdragon 680 mid-range processor and a 7250 mAh battery.

The Pad 8 runs on Android 12 with a Magic UI shell, so you will have all the apps from Google, unlike Huawei gadgets.

    Unpacking and kit

The Honor Pad 8 comes in a white cardboard box with a picture of the device on the front.

Inside the package, along with the tablet is:

    • USB-A to USB-C cable
    • Charger 22.5W
    • Documentation and warranty card

    Design and appearance

Honor has clearly worked out the design of the new tablet - the body of the Pad 8 is made of anodized aluminum, unlike most other models in the segment.

The device is pleasant in the hands, it does not at all seemcheap, although prints remain visible on the matte back surface. The sides are flat and the Pad 8 is only 6.9mm thick. It weighs 520 grams, which is quite normal for a 12-inch tablet. But holding the Pad 8 with one hand for long periods of time is hard.

The bezels around the display are thick enough to rest your fingers on, but they don't make the design dated.

If you take the gadget in landscape orientation, the keyspower and volume controls will be on the top side, on the left. There are four grilles on the sides, behind which there are eight speakers, so you definitely won’t cover everything with your palms. The front camera is located in the upper frame, when the USB-C connector is placed on the right.

    Tablet screen

The Honor Pad 8 has a large 12-inch IPS LCD display with a 5:3 aspect ratio, which has become trendy in the tablet market lately.

The resolution is 2000×1200 pixels, and the density- only 194 ppi, so the detail here is not the highest. There is no support for HDR technology either, although the screen is capable of displaying 1 billion colors. As with most tablets, the Pad 8's panel refresh rate does not exceed 60Hz, although some models like the Redmi Pad already have 90Hz.

The maximum brightness of the Pad 8 screen is also not impressive - 400 nits, and there is no automatic increase here.

When tilting the display, there is a noticeable changecontrast. The color temperature is rather cold, although the hues can be made quite accurate through the color wheel settings. Despite the lack of HDR, the Pad 8 has support for Widevine L1, allowing you to watch content on Netflix in FullHD. The maximum video quality on YouTube is 1080p/60 fps.

    Cameras in Pad 8

The Honor Pad 8 has two 5MP cameras, one on the front and one on the back.

They are almost indistinguishable from each other, exceptthat the main sensor with autofocus. The maximum video resolution is 1080p at 30 fps, but there is no stabilization. The shooting application is almost the same as on smartphones from Huawei or Honor, although there are fewer functions.

Taking photos on the Honor tablet is convenient in both landscape and portrait orientations - of course, if you hold it with both hands.

Photos from the main camera for the average pricesegments are not bad, but the dynamic range is limited, and the saturation is not enough. Clarity and detail match the low resolution of 5 megapixels, although you can hardly expect more from a tablet.

    Main camera

The same applies to the front camera.- almost any smartphone can handle selfies better. Front cameras on tablets are usually only needed for video calls, and the one used here is quite suitable for this.

    Software

Honor Pad 8 runs on Android 12 operating system, and all applications from Google are supported.

A shell is installed on top of the operating systemMagic UI 6.1 from Honor with a large set of convenient features. The interface is well optimized for tablets - the 12-inch display is ideal for splitting into two halves, each of which fits the application.

A swipe from the right side of the display gives you access to the sidebar, where apps can be opened in floating windows, and two windows can be open on the screen at the same time.

To enable split screen mode, you need tolong press on the app icon in the sidebar and then drag to another open app. The necessary pairs can be saved in "recent applications", so that later you can quickly open and continue working.

Otherwise, the Magic UI 6 shell.1 is similar to the analogue for Honor smartphones. The home screen can have a "large folder" for icons, which is much more useful on the Pad 8 than on smartphones. Up to 12 applications can fit in these folders, and you don’t need to open the folder itself to launch them - just click on the application icon.

    Component performance

The processor inside the Honor Pad 8 uses Snapdragon 680, a mid-range chipset from Qualcomm.

It is made using a 6nm process technology and uses eight cores: four Cortex-A73 (2.4 GHz) and four Cortex-A53 (1.9 GHz). RAM can be 4 or 6 GB, when the amount of internal is 128 GB.

Pad 8 results in performance tests are notthe highest. GeekBench 5 shows only 376 points in single-core mode, and 1545 in multi-core mode. In the AnTuTu 9 test, the tablet has 279,242 points, and the graphics GFX Manhattan ES 3.1 (onscreen) produces a result of 13 fps.

The Realme Pad X and Pad perform much better, but the Honor tablet handles web surfing, instant messengers, YouTube videos and other daily tasks without any problems.

    Sound from eight speakers

Honor Pad 8 has eight speakers with four separate drivers for bass and four for treble.

Outgoing sound is balanced and loud, its quality is high, so the tablet is excellent for viewing any content.

    Autonomy Honor Pad 8

The big tablet Pad 8 from Honor received a fairly capacious battery with a capacity of 7250 mAh

For a device with a 12" display, this is notlots of. But, the device is intended more for web surfing and watching movies, so you are unlikely to carry it with you often. However, a full charge of the tablet's battery lasts only 11 hours of normal tasks or 10 hours of video viewing.

Alas, the autonomy indicator here is worse than that of most competitors in the class.

But Pad 8 supports 35W charging, therefore, there are no problems with the speed of energy recovery. In half an hour, the device is charged by 35%, and the whole process of replenishing the battery with energy takes a little less than two hours.

    Total

Honor Pad 8 has one of the largest displays in the segment, and this is the main advantage.

In addition, there are eight speakers on the case -the tablet was clearly created for viewing content. The rest of the Pad 8 is nothing special - the Snapdragon 680 processor seems weak, although it copes with all basic tasks without problems. Battery life could be longer when the case is large and heavy.

The display here is also not the best, even despite the large diagonal. In general, even in the middle price segment there are more preferred options.

    Should I buy

Honor's Pad 8 is only worth choosing if you're looking for an affordable tablet with the largest display - otherwise, look elsewhere.
