Announcement. Panasonic Toughbook A3 - an expensive ruggedized tablet with hot-swappable batteries

We are used to having a tablet like this.home device. Usually not too expensive. Games, movies, wander around sites. And then suddenly - op-pa, the filling of the second freshness, and the price - from $ 2699 (₽186000).

Another world, different rules. Devices “for business” in the broad sense of the word - for builders, firefighters, military, warehouse workers, etc. In short, for those who have a little specific tasks for their work. And who will not buy the tablet himself - the employer will buy it for him. Most likely, in bulk and at a significant discount. Or no discount. Not the point.

Panasonic Toughbook FZ-A3 is just that, for that other world.

Let's start with the defense. From water and dust - according to the class IP65. Those. there is protection, but such, incomplete. You cannot completely immerse in water, but you can work in the rain.

MIL-STD-810H military standard is mentioned - alas,as usual, without specifying which tests the tablet passed. Mentioned ability to withstand falls from a height of five feet. Plus, on the official YouTube channel, you can see how the A3 passes the vibration test. Operating temperature range - from -20С to + 50С.

Official tests (video)

Appearance. Heavy - almost 900 grams, thick - 16.5 mm. Of the interesting points - five customizable buttons, a hole for the stylus (yes, it is here).

In addition to the usual USB Type-C, there is also a full-sized “old” USB. There is also a place for a removable module. A barcode scanner, a reader for smart cards, another USB can be installed there.

The usual ten-inch screen. Resolution is standard, 1920 × 1200 (224 ppi). Very bright - you can work in the sun. Gloved work supported. It is separately mentioned that the cunning screen can recognize drops and not respond to them, do not consider them as clicks.

The chipset is modest. Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 2017, in AnTuTu will gain one thousand one hundred seventy points. For “non-toys” the performance is more than sufficient, although this chip looks like in such an expensive device, of course, completely solid.

Memory. 4 GB of operational. 64 GB permanent. We don’t play toys, we don’t need to watch the video - it should be enough.

The batteries are curious. Two of 3400 mAh each (i.e. a total capacity of 6800 mAh). Hot swap supported! It is also possible to install batteries of a larger capacity, 5580 mAh each.

The cameras are modest. 5 MP front, 8 MP rear.

Another interesting thing to mention is the NFC module and the very high speaker volume.
