Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 successfully passes Zach Nilsson's durability test (video)

One way to further improvesmartphones is becoming the creation of flexible screen devices. Despite the many shortcomings and the high price of such smartphones, this form factor may become dominant in the mobile device market in the future. Samsung, which has already released two models of smartphones with flexible displays, is still the leader in this segment.

JerryRigEverything presenter known forblogger Zach Nilsson conducted a detailed study of the mechanical properties of the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The enthusiast was keen to find out if Samsung engineers solved the numerous mechanical problems identified during testing of the first model last September.

The main innovation in the Galaxy Z Fold 2 isAccording to the developers, it was the use of ultra-thin flexible glass to protect the screen, as well as the installation of micro brushes to cover the holes in the connecting elements and ensure the protection of the smartphone from dust.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 outer screen with mechanicalscratch test, was within accepted standards and only responded when the display was exposed to objects with a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale. The inner screen was scratched by objects with a hardness of 2. This test showed that the second flexible model still has a weak inner screen. After removing the protective film, the ultra-thin display was also damaged by items with a hardness of 2 on the Mohs scale.

To check the effectiveness of the microbrushes onTo protect the device from dust ingress, Zach Nilsson conducted a tough test by sprinkling earth with rocky inclusions on the inner shield. After several such tests, the smartphone continued to function normally. The blogger noted positive changes in the design of the nodes responsible for bending the smartphone.

The next test made the audience hold their breath, when Nielson tried to break the smartphone by applying a bending force at the location of the pivot mechanism. However, all attempts to open the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the opposite direction were unsuccessful, which forced the blogger to note positive changes in the design of the swing mechanism. Thus, Samsung engineers in the second model Galaxy Z Fold 2 with a folding display solved the main mechanical problems associated with the strength of the screen and the penetration of dust and dirt into the interior of the device.
