  • Acer Swift 14 (2023) is a lightweight and powerful laptop withstylish design and updated screen. The display resolution is now QHD +, while the previous models of the line were FHD, and the image lacked detail. The Intel Core i7-13700H processor is a little too powerful at times, and the amount of RAM can be up to 32 GB.

Unfortunately, Swift 14 has two majordisadvantage. Firstly, the processor consumes a lot of energy, which negatively affects battery life. Secondly, the sound quality from the speakers is too low, and in this regard, the laptop is noticeably inferior to its competitors. The keyboard is also not the best, although this is a long-standing problem of all models from Acer.

    Design and features

The Acer Swift series laptops were originally conceived as lightweight devices, and although the Swift 14 (2023) is heavier than past models, it still weighs a little - 1.2 kg.

Most of the body is made of aluminum, but magnesium alloy is also used, which is one of the lightest materials.

The design of the Swift 14 (2023) is stylish, albeit outwardlythe laptop is almost no different from the 2022 version. The color of the case smoothly turns from dark green to golden, and it looks cool. There is nothing on the back except for a small Acer logo, and the case is only 1.5 cm thick.

    Connectors and communication

On the sides of the Acer Swift 14 (2023) there were quite a lot of connectors, which is now rare for top-level laptops.

On the left, you'll see two USB-C with Thunderbolt 4 support, an HDMI 2.1 port, and USB-A 3.2 Gen1, and on the right, another USB-A and a 3.5mm jack. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1 are responsible for wireless communication.

    Laptop screen

Notebook Acer Swift 14 (2023) is equipped with a 14-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels.

Previously, even many top-level laptops from Acerscreen resolution did not exceed FHD, and in this regard, the company lagged behind competitors. Fortunately, this time there is no such problem, and we get an incredible picture.

The color scheme of the display is good:sRGB space coverage is 100%, NTSC is 79%, AdobeRGB is 84%, and P3 is 85%. The maximum brightness reaches a good 544 nits, but the refresh rate is limited to 60 Hz.

    Webcam and sound

The top bezel above the display of the Acer Swift 14 (2023) has a 3.7MP webcam with 1440p video recording.

It is able to provide clear and detailedimage during video calls, although in most applications the resolution will be compressed to FHD at best. Like many laptops with an Intel processor, Swift 14 has useful Windows Studio Effects.

You can blur the background orso that the camera seems to follow you as you move around the room, while the rest of the frame is cropped. There is even an effect that, when turned on, will make it look like you are looking directly into the camera.

The only problem is that the Windows Studio functionEffects is designed for Neural Engine processors, which are not Intel Core i7-13700H. Because of this, you cannot use several effects at the same time, and when you turn on the second effect, you will not even know that the first one is disabled.

The Swift 14 (2023) has two speakers, which do not work well. The sound lacks depth, and the volume is sometimes not high enough even to drown out the noise of the running fans. To watch movies and listen to music, it is better to connect cable or wireless headphones.

    Keyboard and touchpad

The keyboard on the Acer Swift 14 (2023) is good, but nothing special.

It is almost the same as on previous models.company, and cannot compete with the keyboards on the best laptops from HP and Lenovo. Below the space bar is the touchpad, which could have been a bit bigger. If you look at other top-tier 14-inch laptops, you can find much larger and more comfortable touchpads.

    Component performance

The Acer Swift 14 (2023) version reviewed here is equipped with an Intel Core i7-13700H processor, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD.

On sale there is an assembly with a Core i5-13500H processor, and RAM can be 8 GB, and 32 GB.

In the GeekBench 5 test, the laptop scores 2381 points insingle-core mode and 11,207 points in multi-core mode. 3DMark: Time Spy, which gives an idea of the performance in games, shows a good result of 1968 points. Overall, the internals are powerful, especially given the compact and lightweight chassis.

    Autonomy Acer Swift 14 (2023)

The power consumption of the Core i7-13700H is 45W, which is too much for a compact laptop. When buying such devices, people usually do not expect maximum performance, but long battery life.

Acer's decision to put such a non-power-efficient processor in Swift 14 (2023) seems a little strange.

A few years ago in laptops like thistype, 15W chipsets were commonly used. Then some manufacturers switched to 28-watt processors, but the increased power consumption was offset by larger batteries.

A standard battery with a capacity of56 Wh, which is clearly not enough. When performing everyday tasks, the device is discharged after 3-4 hours, which is a terrible result. If you plan to take your Swift 14 (2023) to work frequently, you'll also need to carry a charger with you.

    Total

The Acer Swift 14 (2023) is another good laptop, but it still has many of the flaws that other models from the company have.

The keyboard is mediocre, so if youIf you are constantly typing large amounts of text, it is better to take a different model. The battery life is short, because the Core i7-13700H processor consumes a lot of power.

But iron is really powerful, even if itseems inappropriate for this type of laptop. In addition to the components, Swift 14 (2023) boasts a stylish design and a thin body, so it is convenient to carry around. However, some of Acer's decisions are strange, which makes it very difficult for me to recommend the Swift 14 for purchase.

    Should I buy

The Swift 14 (2023) from Acer's Swift is a good laptop in many ways, but it's hard to recommend due to its weak battery and clumsy keyboard.
