For those who do not have enough time to play sports, walking in the morning or in the evening, as well as exercising or cycling can really help make the body stronger. And once again, you should refuse to travel by car or bus in favor of an alternative type of transportation, as it turned out that there is a direct connection between the preferred transport and human mortality.
To prove this, scientists conducted a studyon an impressive sample of nearly 400 thousand inhabitants of Great Britain. According to its results, the bicycle turned out to be the “healthiest” means of transportation: in comparison with motor vehicle lovers, cyclists had a mortality rate lower by as much as 20%, they also die much less often from heart disease and cancer - 24% and 16% respectively.
What is better to get around?
Research by scientists from Cambridge Universityis one of the largest in the last few years. They took information on hundreds of thousands of Britons from the 1991 census and compared it with updated information in 2001 and 2011. They were interested in how the mode of transportation (car, public transport, bicycle or walking) affects mortality from cardiovascular disease and cancer. At the same time, the social and economic status of specific people, the presence of chronic diseases, and education were taken as side variables.
During the observation period, nearly 14,000 people died,of which 6,500 died from cancer and 3,200 from cardiovascular diseases. As a result, it was the cyclists who were the most healthy, in comparison with motorists, they were diagnosed with these diseases much less often and the number of lovers of two-wheeled vehicles also died less (motorcyclists are not included in these statistics). Those who used public transport and walked had lower morbidity, an average of 13%. To get to a bus stop and get to work, as a rule, you also need to move.
Thus, scientists concluded that moreactive types of movement have a serious effect on the human body compared to personal transport. And they still did not take into account the high risk of death from traffic accidents that often happen to motorists. They also noted that those who ride a bicycle to work lose weight as well as workouts.
