Announcement. Motorola Edge 40 Neo – a rounded mid-range for Europe and the debut of the chipset

Motorola introduced its new smartphone in Europe called Motorola Edge 40 Neo.

Similar to the Edge 40 ancestor? Yes, very similar. But cheaper. Downgrade? Let's watch.

Edge 40

The chipset is called MediaTek Dimensity 7030.Congratulations, we have our debut. Edge 40 Neo is the first smartphone with this chip. So there are no performance statistics yet. However, there are strong suspicions that the Dimensity 7030 is just a renamed last year’s MediaTek Dimensity 1050. However, this will not help us much, I also don’t have statistics on the Dimensity 1050. Judging by the set of cores and GPUs, we can safely assume that we have middle-class hardware here. But how many parrots will there be in AnTuTu? We'll find out soon, probably.

The ancestor of the Edge 40 runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 chipset. Everything is clearer there with the parrots. 700-800 thousand. Not exactly a flagship, but the performance is very serious.

The amount of RAM suddenly increased from 8 to 12 GB. The amount of permanent memory has not changed - still the same 256 GB. Memory cards are not supported.

The screen is still the same pOLED. Diagonal 6.55″ (104 cm²), resolution 402 ppi (1080×2400). Ultra-high (“gaming”) refresh rate – up to 144 Hz. Plus they promise a very high maximum brightness. Well, roundness. The sides of the screen are not flat at all, to put it mildly.

The battery capacity has increased from 4400 mAh to the average 5000 mAh. Charging remains just as fast – 68 W. Wireless charging has been bitten off.

Cameras. The number of megapixels has not changed.32 MP front, 50+13 MP rear. There is optical stabilization. With a high degree of probability, the main camera sensor has not changed – OmniVision OV50A. But it is not exactly.

There is an NFC module, support for 5G networks and all that stuff... The fingerprint scanner is hidden under the screen. We are not afraid of water and dust - IP68.

And about money. At the start of sales, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo 12+256 GB will cost €399.99 (₽41,300, $429) in Europe. What about the ancestor, what about the Edge 40 Neo? The current price for the 8+256 GB version is €499.99 (₽51,600, $537). And why, tell me, are we overpaying?
