Announcement. Large global e-reader Onyx Boox Note Air 3 C – Kaleido 3 color inks, fresh hardware and software, fingerprint scanner

I'm starting to get confused about the Onyx model range. OK. If so, let's start with the characteristics.

So.A large e-reader with a color screen, the Onyx Boox Note Air 3 C, has been announced. Announced for global markets, not for China. Like all similar large devices, it is aimed at reading PDF files, working with a stylus, taking notes, and so on.

The screen has a diagonal of 10.3″ (329 cm²) and a resolution of 1860×2480 (300 ppi). Two touch layers - separately for fingers and for the stylus. There is a backlight with adjustable color temperature.

The latest generation of color electronic ink E-InkKaleido 3 (4096 colors). Let me remind you that colored inks are interesting because they have different densities of black and white and color dots. And if for the previous generation it was 300 and 100 ppi, respectively, now it is 300 and 150 ppi.

Onyx has already used similar screens (of the same size and the same characteristics) in their readers Tab Ultra C (global), Tab 10C and Tab 10C Pro (both Chinese).

Hardware and software.Note Air 3 C runs on the latest Onyx hardware and software platform. Android 12 and an unnamed octa-core chipset with a frequency of 2.4 GHz (presumably Qualcomm Snapdragon 680). Exactly the same set of software and hardware is used in the Onyx Boox Note X3 reader. And, perhaps, it should be considered the model closest to the Note Air 3 C. There are only two differences. The screen is completely different - not color and lower resolution. And X3 is not intended for global markets, but for China.

Battery. 3700 mAh. On the one hand, by the standards of e-readers this is not bad. On the other hand, models with a similar color screen for the Chinese market have much larger batteries - 4600 or 6300 mAh.

Memory. Everything is fine. 4 GB RAM, 64 GB permanent. Memory cards supported.

What else. Type-C, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. There is no camera this time. But there is a fingerprint scanner.

Perhaps it makes sense to compare the new e-reader with the spring Tab Ultra C in a little more detail, since both of them are “global” and we can consider that one is replacing the other.

The screens are identical. The hardware and software have been refreshed; Ultra C's are older. The amount of memory has not changed. The Ultra C has a much larger battery - 6300 mAh versus 3700 mAh. And there is a rear camera. Something like this.

About money.

At the start of sales in the US, Onyx Boox Note Air 3 C will cost $499.99 (₽48,600). For old Europe, the price is less humane - €549.99 (₽56,400, $580).
